Big Day for Pwerfect as Progeny Shine on Both Sides of the Tasman

Saturday marked another standout day for stakes-producing Pentire mare Pwerfect, with two of her progeny claiming black-type placings in Australia and New Zealand.

In Queensland, promising three-year-old Beau Dazzler delivered a strong finish to place third in the Group 2 Queensland Guineas. Meanwhile, across the Tasman, two-year-old Toretto showed plenty of grit to also finish third in the Listed Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre Stakes.

Both runners are by rising star sire Ardrossan, who continues to impress with his early results at stud. From just 68 runners across three crops, Ardrossan has now sired 10 stakes performers. His 2022 crop numbered only 39 foals, and remarkably, just two have raced this season—both earning stakes or group placings, including Toretto.

Pwerfect was purchased by Bruce in 2019 via Gavelhouse for the Dewar Partnership, a syndicate he established to help launch Ardrossan’s stud career.

Toretto was snapped up by Benner Racing at Karaka in 2024, and the stable has since doubled down, securing his full brother at this year’s sale. The Dewar Partnership also has high hopes for Pwerfect’s 2024 filly by Ardrossan, which they’ve opted to retain and race themselves.
